No. Spyware causes popups etc and are generally bad.

Spyware is an application that any company can install to allow them to track what you are doing online...cookies are a good example of the beginnings of this type of application. You really should not have them because they can be exploited and used for harmful purposes. They can task out your processor and even be used to execute attacks if the exploit can be added correctly.
Use a combination of SpyBot and Ad-aware (free version) to clean your computer. Will make it respond better as well.
