1024kb per mb therefore:

1024x512=524288kb

512mb is roughly another way of saying 512,000 kb. That's not the exact number because a k in computer talk is 1024, but it's close enough.

That depends on the manufacturer...most of the time it's 1024kb per 1MB of storage...but some companies will only use 1000kb because of metric units instead of bit-units.
