Well, yes we do get tonnes of African dust each year - most of which I am convinced ends up on MY floors!

However,
- We also have 1 vehicle for every 3 people on the island and no air care controls. Plus the buses.
- There are no burning controls and many many people burn their garbage.
- During the cane harvest, the air if full of black soot from the factories ( only 1 to be in oppperation this coming season) that coats everything including your lungs.
- A lot of the roads are not paved, or are in bad shape thus causing a lot of dust and stirring up pollutants

As a result of all these factors, Barbados has a very high population suffering from asthma.

When the rains come and water rushes down the gullys, they do flush pollutants into the ocean, however this is not what is killing the coral. The coral is dieing because it is being smothered by algae which is flourishing as a result of development on the west coast. There is no sewage treatment plant - if you get what I am saying.
