1. Your overworking the DVR, if so, turn it off once and a while

2. You are getting the crappy defective ones...three times...

I had same problem with cd-recorders about 5 yrs ago. Luckily I bought a 4 yr warranty from Best Buy. Problem was Phillips Magnavox made them not to last, finally store steered me to Sony and since then hadn't a problem.. It's not usage. Switch brands. I've had a Panasonic dvd-recorder almost 2 yrs and no problems.

Overusage. Do you clean your DVR heads according to manufacturer specifications? If you do, then are you purchasing a quality, brand name DVR? If you are, then it can only be the amount of time you are using it. That's the only thing I can think of.
