you may just as well get the thing since nearly all jobs require a diploma or at least a GED. The problem with a GED though shows you didnt have the drive to make it through school and may not be worth hiring since you dont have the staying power for school.
you NEED a diploma to enlist and you even have to take a huge test...ASVAB...to do anything in there. The military are not willing to take idiots.

I honestly don't know of many legal jobs that don't require a High School Diploma or a GED that would pay any type of money--Babysitting or Lawn care are two I can think of--but there's not benefits and I know the pay for child care is lousy. If it is at all possible, you should work to get that GED. There are programs out there that can help you obtain this.
Good luck!

Everyone is going to tell you to go back to school. Hopefully you can someday.
But under some circumstances we know it to be impossible. And if you are supporting yourself and being responsible at such a young age we probably can all gather that you will at least go back and get a GED someday (you can test for that now!)
NOW, to your question.
My son has a lot of friends that work for home construction guys during the summer.
Those old guys (excuse me...skilled laborers)
love a kid to haul the heavy stuff, mix the grout, fetch them lunch, clean the finished floors, sand the drywall, haul the bricks etc. They will be happy to teach you all the easy stuff and when you do well at that they will teach you more.
So as long as you are a tough and don't mind physical labor, you can do pretty well and possibly learn a trade in the meantime.
As for how to go about getting a job like this.
Be bold. Show up at a work site and offer to do the lifting and cleaning for these guys. Tell them your situation and you would be surprised at how busy you get. (you will get buff too!)
Good luck

say cheese,
take an ounce of truth from an old fart in the school of hard knocks. GET back in school some how any way you can and be a man tough it out. get the h.s. diploma. without it you will be treated like a pound of raw decomposing meat in the work place. you'll be lower than an illegal on work pecking order.
no h.s. diploma will cost you a million dollars or more take it from experience -mine.
your mind and your willingness to learn are the only things that can keep you employed when (and it will) your back or knees or wrists go out and you are no longer employable.
go back to school some how ,NOW.

You will find it VERY hard to get a good well paying job without your grade 12. Trust me, I've been there. I went back as a mature student to get mine and it has made a big difference. A lot of companies won't even accept an application if you don't have at least grade 12.

sales associate, cashier, babysitting...
You really should go back to school and get your diploma... it will make life a lot easier in the long run! (you may be 16 now, but not forever- think rent, utilities, transportation, food, clothing, phone bills) They add up fast- without a good paying job, ur asking for a life of struggling.

I don't know about enlistment. But I work for an employment agency and I can say that until you go and get your GED it will be very hard to get any kind of job outside of department stores, fast food or busting tables.
Once you get your GED and turn 18, many more possibilities will open up, factories, office help.... good luck to you.

It may be 18, I'm not sure. If you are good working on cars, ask your parents to help you find a car mechanic shop in your area, where you can get a job and learn the business.
