I believe that it is 500,000 Because I read that the first 500,000 units will feature a blu-ray disk of "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" and by the end of the year 1 million units
But I have also seen 400,000 too

In its first production run, only about 500,000 PS3s were expected. About 400,000 are slated to go to North American for launch day and only about 100,000 to their home country of Japan, strangely. Europe is not getting any of the launch units. Pretty bad- Sony is taking lots of critical hits for this. Look on ebay after Friday to see units selling for $2,000 and up!

prolby a boat load if sony really wanted to make the mony the should flood the game stores with them
at $600 a pop they would make a lot of money in
a short time

On the launch date only 400,000 units will be available. by the end of the year Sony says they will have about 1,000,000 units.
