Not for me. Yes--money is important. I definitely would NOT work a "normal" 8-5 job if I didn't need the money. I would find something I love to do and work the hours that work for me.
However, I have taken a cut in pay twice in my life because sometimes money isn't the most important thing. I am at work longer then I am at home sometimes and I see those people more then I see my own family. If there is major conflict that can't be resolved..I'd rather be somewhere else. Or in my case, I knew I wanted to get into a different field and I knew I'd have to start at the bottom so i took the demotion. In my opinion, having a good boss that i can get a long with, and doing a job I enjoy is more important then money sometimes.

I have looked at jobs that I would have loved to do, and had I not such a large mortgage I would be able to do them and be happy, however to cover the mortgage I am doing a stressful job that I am not enjoying. I guess the answer to your question then is Yes, unfortunately money is the main motivator.

well it depends what kind of job u have, it is your main motivator if u have a dead end job and r only there to get money to pay bills, kids etc.. but if u have a career and enjoy what u are doing from ur heart then u should enjoy it, if it is what u had chosen and planned to do, went to uni etc.. but if everyone did this (went to uni) then we wouldnt have cafe workers, checkouts, it is also the ppl u work with. good luck!

No.
The main motivator AT work is getting the best job done that i can.
But it is the main motivator TO work.... would I really put up with all this $hit if I diddn't need to pay rent/food/consumables.... er.... no!
Don't get me (too) wrong - I DO enjoy my job (just in case any of my students are listening in...) but I also do it coz it it necessary in order to live.
If I didn't need to pay bills I'd be doing other stuff that I enjoy better.

In my line of work, a cardiac assistant in a hospital, the feeling of wanting to care for others is a motivator for me. I enjoy my work. If I can make someone feel better or save someones life it's worth it, at least it is for me. Money is important yes, but so is a person's life.

Sadly for most people it is at the top of the list. One time it was the enjoyment of the job but because of cost of living you need MONEY and much of the time you have to suffer through a poor work environment.

Probably not 'money' particularly, because you can't eat it. I think the main motive is to survive. And then all the ego games and status anxieties come after the initial survival is secured.

Yes, it's the only reason I go to work. There's other reasons that allow me to enjoy doing it sometimes, but it still boils down to: No pay = no work, because I have bills to worry about.
