no, but it does induce horrible horrible diarrhea. as an ob nurse, i beg you, please don't do this. and if you do coincidentally go into labor, you'll be tied down to a bed with monitors...and horrible diarrhea.

No. I tried this 3 times during the last pregnancy. The way it's supposed to work is that it induces diarreha and severe cramping. But it's an old wives tale. By the time you are at the point where your thinking about it - that point where you just want the baby out already and sick of being pregnant - labor will be happening by itself anytime. This method will make you very sick and whatever you mix the castor oil with - if you do - you will not be able to LOOK at again for 6 months. If you try to take the castor oil alone, you will vomit before it even hits your mouth. People told me this worked..lol. and due to the horrors of third trimester pregnancy I would try ANYTHING. But the reality is (with a five year old now, and clear not pregnant thinking) that just because friends may have drank castor oil and then had a baby a couple days later does NOT mean that they needed to the drink castor oil. They would have had the baby anyway. If it worked, the doctors would say so - it would be something that every pregnant woman did right on the nine month mark. So if you want to be sicker then you have ever been in your life, and add to an already miserable experience - then castor oil is for you. Add, riding on a bumpy road and wild sex too. They don't work either but if you're going - go big! Otherwise, take the easier route and just sit on the couch with your feet up and let everyone else do the work. The baby MUST come out, that is a scientific certianty - and trust me when it does, you will wish that you could put it back in every once in a while to take a NAP!

I tried it once. I was sorry! However, I did go into labor about 12 hours later. But, I was also one day overdue, so it probablly had nothing to do with the castor oil. I wouldn't recommend it.

NO!!! I drank a whole bottle of that stuff and I wanted to die!! I was on the toilet for 2 days. Even had to sleep on it. No baby came out! Baby was born 2 weeks later via c-section.

It can cause cramps and diarrhea...which can stimulate actual contractions...but it is certainly not worth it.

Diarrhea is the last thing you want going on down there when giving birth...your poor OB.

My OB told me that it can, but you should only take it if your OB gives you the ok. Also it will bring on terriable pain & have you sitting on the toilet for the day!

No it makes you poop and can make the baby poop while youre still pregnant and then the baby can breath it in and can cause lots of problems. dont do it...if you care about your baby.
