I do believe that in the sense that the questions do have points and they have to convey some meaning and they do require an answer, but they are pointless in the sense that people are just asking them for the point of asking them. The real thing to say is that there no such things as stupid questions, only stupid people

Where did the whole "no stupid questions" thing begin?
Seems like something someone would say when addressing a bunch of fools, to be nice.
You won't hear that motto at a corporate board room.
You won't hear it at my school, either.
People will ridicule you, interrupt you, or demand you shut up.
Clearly for the greater good, at times. At others, we just need to belittle someone because we can. That's life.
I think after seeing "How many angels can dance on a pin's head?" twice in the passed week, I've realized how atrocious this democratic attempt at philosophy is.

i don't believe there is a such thing as a dumb question, if the question is asked. it needs to be answered some how.
but in another form, i think alot of people that ask questions just need attention.
it's not the question that is stupid. it's the person asking it.

No. The idea behind the motto is "if you don't know something, you should ask the question then you'll learn." The problem is when people ask questions to which they already know the answers. There are also plenty of question on here that the asker could easily find-out for themselves. I'd define a stupid question as one that takes more effort to ask than it takes to find the answer for yourself.

well.....
it depends , u cant call a question stupid when the person asking doesnt know the answer to it; nor call it stupid when they just want to know ur opinion about the matter. But stupid is labeled a question where one knows the answer but asks just because.

It can sound stupid, but if the person has given it at least a bit of thought, and still can't figure it out on his own, then I wouldn't call it stupid.

Hi there,
Hm mm...
I think that the time and place that the question is asked, along with the reason leaves it to interpretation also, the IQ of the person asking the question....

Have you seen the questions by the guy named "The What Should I Do Retard"? He's often in the Religion and Spirituality section.
