you might have to check your RAM memory
for games like bf2 and hl2...you need atleast 512 MB or more.
if you don't have enough...then upgrade your memory
you can check your memory by right clicking on My computer and click on properties, under general tab you will see how much your computer has.
OR
you might or might not have viruses, but do check if your virus definitions are updated...
OR
you might have spyware, spyware usually is the primary reason for computers to slow down. you can get spyware just by even browsing the net.
get a good anti-spyware software. spysweeper is the best software there is....so run it and get rid of any spyware that you might have

While playing your games and if you are not playing online games, shutdown your anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall and any other programs running in the background that are not required. It will boost the performance of your games. In addition, clear all temp files from your PC including the windows prefetch folder. Your disk should have atleat 20% to 30% free space in the partition where you have installed Windows and your games. Download the latest drivers of your graphics card if you havenot. Remove any themes on windows if you are using. Change the active desktop to a classic one. All this will boost up the performance.

first of all u have to delete your cookies, then, ur temporary internet file you can do this through contol panel, or through tools on ur browser window.
next, u shuld do a disk defragmenter, if u have never done it it could take upto 12 hours so do it wen ur sleeping and it should be done in the morninng. then do a disk clean up.
once everything is done ur computer will be extremely fast, and good as new. BUT (very important), u have to delete ur cookies and temporary internet files daily, and do the disk clean up, and disc defragmenter (which can be found in system tools, through start, all programs, then accessories, then system tools ), should be done monthly.
you can set ur cookies and temporary internet files do delet after u close a browser through the options button under tools.

i doubt it's your graphics card. What you need to do is check your hard drive space to make sure you have enough room for everything you're running. If you have adequate space, check to see how much RAM you have. RAM is a main factor in how fast your PC runs, so you want to make sure that you have enough, 512 MB at least.
If all these factors are good, then I would suggest you revert back to what OS you had BEFORE you upgraded to XP.

if it were up to me, i would check all the cables insode the computer to make suire they were all connected. if this is not the problem then i would put all of my files on a back up disk or something then reformat the computer. it IS NOT the video card, these can only make the computer slow down on games like world of warcracft
