Why would people camp out already for this machine? Isn't camping out showing greed?

I don't think people care if they are showing greed or not. But it's true, I don't really see what the point is. Who cares if you're the 'first one ever' to get their hands on a PS3? The prices are just gonna go down after a while anyways, so I still don't see what the point is.

it's not greed, it's dedication, though very poorly planned dedication. Sony is seriously pulling some serious Hara-Kiri by releasing a system that's had very minimal testing with a technology that has had barely ANY time to intigrate into mainstream technology (Blu-Ray). Nintendo, on the other hand, has been in the game business for years, has the cheapest system on the market, and has plenty of good and entertaining games coming out, as opposed to the PS3 that has about 4 or 5 good launch games that are about 70 to 80 bucks a piece.

I personally think its quiet silly. I've read that there are only a certain number of PS3's coming out, but that there will be more. So, why not wait? Save yourself the trouble and just wait until more comes out. Waiting might also save you a couple of hundred dollars.

I'm going to wait a cpl of years when the price drops. The reason the price is so high now is because that's the highest they were able to go and still be able to sell them. They are actually going to be losing money until a certain number of them sell.

FYI: 20GB will be $549.00 whereas the 60GB will be $659.00. Too rich for my blood.

It's 500 dollars minimum! Just dumb. My pregnant friend just lost her job, is on unemployment (800 less than she was making in a month), and her husband is thinking of using their savings to pay for a ps3. They were living paycheck to paycheck before, and now they have even less the income and want to spend more money!! With a baby on the way! She needs help... they're def not ready for a kid.... but damn I guess he needs that ps3. :(

xbox 360 is better, I am not paying 600 dollars for that peice of junk when I could get an xbox 360 and nintendo wii for the same price.

You think you'll be able to get ahold of one otherwise? If you don't camp out or didn't reserve one, I highly doubt it. There always seem to be "shortages" when new consoles launch.
