"By law..." the laws very in all states regarding overtime and holiday pay. There are even some counties that have different provisions for employers in their counties. Some states require "additional compensation" whether that be time in a half, double time, or extra days off all depends on the provisions of the act. Best way to find out for sure in your area is contact your local District Attorney's office. A simple question like that they would answer for free.
