The proper way to degauss a monitor IS via that degauss button. If you've used it and it did not help you, please consult a monitor repair technician, rather than trying "home-made remedies"!

The drill thing isn't nonsense. Old TV guys used 60hz magnets to manually deguass picture tubes, It's only fixed magnets that hurt them.

LOL
God I hope you don't work in my office. No magnet! BAD MAGNET! I don't care what anyone says, if you put a magnet up to something with a magnet in it, you broke it, wether or not it broke right then or there or gradually. I don't know what you want to fix so I can't give any constructive criticism, but I know for sure putting a magnet near it is BAD!

1) unhook the monitor from your system and put it down where there are lots of space.
2) strip naked.
3) dance around it with a tambourine.
4) sacrifice your cat to please the monitor god.
