It took me, damn near 18 years and two husbands to conceive.
I don't know why it took so long. Yes, I did actively chart and ovulation tests...fertility specialist won't take you seriously if you do not do this. I had gone through all the fertility and was taking a break before trying invitro. When my 2nd marriage went to hell and around the same time 2 different doctors said I was already menopausal at 34. I needed one more test (the biopsy) to confirm their diagnosis and to have the hysterectomy they suggested. I was dragging my feet, wouldn't go have the last test. Working my @ss off, trying to get back on my feet after my separation, and the devastating news that I wouldn't have children. I was also in the process of reevaluating my priorities. Hell all I ever wanted to be was a mommy. So I was trying to find things that I liked and exploring who I was, I needed to define myself something other than a wife and mother. 1 month after my divorce was final, the guy I had been dating knocked me up. Couldn't believe it!

It took us 1 1/2 years to get pregnant.

I think it took us along time because at the time we had quite a bit of stress in our lives. My husband also found out he had MS during that time and that can make getting pregnant harder.

I did actively chart my cycle and use the ovulation test where you spit on the screen and look for the ferning effect.

We are currently pregnant and due Dec 20 with a beautiful baby boy. Good luck.

I'm not sure if my experience was considered a long time...but we tried for a year and a half...and I had a thyroid disorder which was the cause...my OB doctor couldn't find the problem I had to get a second opinion and that doctor found it...they put me on medication and when I went back 6 weeks later for my check up I was pregnant.
