Government hates to loose money like that. OH, NO
They will never make it illegal. They want our tax money to support their lifestyles.
Remember when alcohol was illegal in the old days?

No. It should be a personal choice. As an ex-smoker I believe in the freedom of choice. Should drinking be illegal? I don't see anyone becoming homeless because they have a smoking addiction. I don't see anyone passed out on the sidewalk because they smoked. Alcohol destroys lives. While smoking will give you lung cancer and dozens of other health problems there are many other things that will do the same. Should overweight people be outlawed? They put just as much a strain on our health system as smokers. How about skydivers? That's potentially lethal. WE make choices everyday and we live with them. As long as the smoking doesn't effect someone else, leave it alone. I am for laws restricting where you can smoke. Just like you can't walk down the street drunk. It all comes down to personal responsibility.

First off, let me say, I am a non smoker. Never been a smoker, never will be a smoker.
No to answer your question, I will ask you a question.
Do you believe in freedom?
If you answered yes, then of course smoking should not be illegal. If we have freedom, then smokers have as much freedom as us non smokers. You always have the right to not hang around with a smoker.
If you said, you don't believe in freedom, then yes smoking should be illegal. But then again, so should alcohol, automobiles, guns, knives, and all drugs. More people die each year from each one of these things then from smoking related deaths.
My opinion is that nothing that doesn't have the exclusive idea of harm behind it (I.E. a Gun) should be illegal. We should have a right to choose what we want to do, not have someone else choose for us.

It will never happen! Governments make too much money from the tax on the sale of cigarettes. It should be banned in all public places, as a non smoker I do not want my air polluted by second hand smoke..:D

I don't think it should be illegal because when the Government gets a power it tends to abuse that power. Just imagine that the Government decides to ban salt and red meat because of the heart problems in our country. I know it's a little out there but when you decide to let the government decide what is good for you they will.
I do think that their are places where you should not smoke and that establishment should decide this not the government. I am a smoker and miss having a beer and a smoke in a bar there is nothing better.

why on earth should it be banned? Its not like it hurts anyone! If it was a problem, I am sure that they would put some type of warning on them like they do for my kids toys, telling them not to put it in the mouth or point it at anyone! I mean, if they will hand you out a free book of matches with each purchase, how bad can they be? They dont do that with fireworks, & we all know how dangerous they are! When was the last time you bought a toy that included the batteries?
And besides, I am sure that if the manufacturers and the US Government thought that they were harmfull to anyone, that they would not want to sell it to anyone. You make it seem like they are in it for the money or something!

No. It is your body and you have the right to control what goes in it. If you wish to smoke, that is a personal choice. Its kind of like jogging. Not everyone wants to do it.
In Ohio we just passed a law that bans smoking indoor in bars, restaurants, and bowling alley's. If you smoke, you should have the common courtesy to take it outside so that others who choose not to smoke do not have to breath the smoke. Most of the smokers that I work with do that when we go out as a group.

Just in public places. I think designated areas for smoking ought to be provided, but enforcement of the rules need to be carried out. Smoking, I think will diminish to the point of extinction in the next 10 years if we non-smokers keep pushing.

No, absolutely not. If there is such a huge problem with smokers, the institutions that creates the product must be stopped, not those who are lawfully choosing to partake in said product. That is like saying alcohol should be illegal, but keeping it on the shelves. Ridiculous.

First of all making smoking illegal would only result in expansion of black market just like when alcohol was illegal. For some people smoking is a way of life you can't just make them stop if they don't want to.
If you make smoking illegal then so should fast foods and carbonated drinks...they too slowly kill us.
