For my family, Christmas Eve is a larger celebration that Christmas day, although we made a big deal of both. On Christmas Eve have all immediate and exteded family over and eat an amaizing meal and then we open gifts. After all, the night of Christmas Eve is when Jesus was acutally born in the stable. The whole evening is spent with loved ones, singing, eating and making the best of time with our family remembering that we are together for all of the things Jesus did for us. Christmas day, we wake up and open the presents from my parents and my brother and I to each other, and then we do the same thing with the relatives on my dad's side of the family. Since we're all getting older. there's less emphasis on the presants but we still have a great time ith family. Also, for the girl that said Christmas was a pagan tradition, Christmas SYMBOLS like christmas trees and such may be pagan but there's nothing pagan about the birth of Christ.

This is especially geared towards families with children to teach them the proper meaning of Christmas:

Build up the birth of Christ for the 3 weeks prior. Read the story of Joseph and Mary the week before. Put up a manger under the Christmas tree. Go to a Christmas Eve service (the evening ones are prettiest). Celebrate family rather than material gifts.

Before I go on each Christian family and Each Families are different when it comes to Christmas. It's up to your family how you celebrate Christmas.
Me I spend Christmas Eve baking cookies and if there is a church service I go to it. In the evening I have a Christmas beef roast.
Then next day if there is church we get up and go to church first. Then come home and open gifts in front of the camera. When we go shoppign for gifts we get the needs first and things on sale for the wants.
Remember to have a Happy Christmas is to Keep Christ in Christmas.

The purpose of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Going to church on Christmas Eve (the day before Christmas) is traditional. These services are usually held in the evening. Christmas day is spent with family opening presents and eating turkey or ham, sweet potatoes, cranberry relish, and stuffing.

Christmas is not of divine origin, but rather is deeply rooted in pagan traditions. Christmas as we know it started as the Roman feast of "Saturnalia", which lasted from December 17 to December 25. It was to observe the winter solstice.
The World Book Encyclopedia states: “This celebration [Christmas] was probably influenced by pagan (unchristian) explicitlfestivals held at that time. The ancient Romans held year-end celebrations to honor Saturn, their harvest god; and Mithras [the sun god].”
The New Catholic Encyclopedia says: “On Dec. 25, 274, [Roman emperor] Aurelian had proclaimed the sun-god [Mithras] principal patron of the empire . . . Christmas originated at a time when the cult of the sun was particularly strong at Rome.”
As James Hastings states in Encyclopædia of Religion and Ethics: “Most of the Christmas customs now prevailing . . . are not genuine Christian customs, but heathen customs which have been absorbed or tolerated by the Church. . . . The Saturnalia in Rome provided the model for most of the merry customs of the Christmas time. This old Roman feast was celebrated on 17-24 December.”
Since the Apostle Paul urged those who participated in pagan worship to "turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things in them.” in Acts 14:12-15, true Christians separate themselves from any vestiges of false religion or pagan worship, including the celebration of Christmas.

I am not sure there is a proper way. My family goes to Christmas Eve service, has dinner at home and plays games together. We read the story of Jesus birth from the Bible and then we open gifts.

Being a Christian is a lifelong commitment. It is important always, not just at Christmastime.

I celebrate Christmas with joy and happiness. I celebrate it with my family and friends. We dec out our home with Christmasy stuffs. I don't like to put up Santa stuffs unless it has Jesus with Him. We bless and give our time to others in need. We are human too and we celebrate Christmas just like others. We just believe the true meaning to celebrating Christmas.

Go to church. We also have a live barn service telling the Christmas story. Several of the churches participate, no matter the denomination. It's very emotional because, being in a barn with the animals, seeing "Joseph, Mary, and Jesus" -- that's what Christmas is about.

Proper? I really think proper depends on the person. But I do feel it is important to remember that the term CHRISTmas is derived from the word CHRIST. I always make it a point to to thank heavens for the good fortune in my life and ask that I be blessed with the ability to deal graciously with any struggles or hardships that may come my way.
