three students realize that their houses lie in a straight line. Vic's house can be considered to be at the coordinates (2,3). Lil's house, which is halfway between vics house and rogers house, is located at (5,5). What is the x coordinates of rogers house?

Roger's house is at coordinates (3, 4). First of all, graph Vic's house, then graph Lil's house. Draw a line between the two. Then determine where the halfway point is. That would be (3, 4).

Good luck, hope this helps. Cheers, K

first you need to draw a grid with X and Y coordinates; plot Vic's house on the grid (over 2 spaces and up 3 spaces- 2,3); plot Lil's house on the grid at (5,5); you should be able to visually find Roger's house and determine the coordinates by drawing a straight line through the points at Vic's and Lil's houses; Roger's house should be located at (8, 7)

well the coords are written in the form (x,y)
and since we have
Vic's x coord = 2
Lil's x coord = (2 + x) /2 = 5

Assume that roger's x-coord are 'x'.. therefore lil's coords which are mid-way can be written as (V + x ) /2

thus by equating we find:
(2+x)/2 = 5

2+x = 2 * 5

2+x = 10

x = 10 - 2

x= 8

roger's x-coord are 8

formula to determine midpoint is (x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2

(2 + x2)/2 = 5
2 = x2 = 10
x2 = 8

(3 + y2)/2 = 5
3 + y2 = 10
y2 = 7

Therefore third house is at (8,7)
