Elizabeth was the first actress to be paid one million dollars for a film role--l963's "Cleopatra".
Not too sure who the first male was but I would guess John Wayne or Richard Burton.....try that...

The only thing I can really add is Julia Roberts was the first actress to be paid TEN MILLION dollars per movie. Jim Carrey was the first 20 Million dollar man...lol I believe Chris Tucker is getting 30 million for Rush Hour 3 but I'm not sure if that's a first or not. :-)

Charleton Heston - Ben Hur - 1959. Not sure about this though.
Elizabeth Taylor for Cleopatra - 1963. I'm positive about this one.
