Are you meaning PR as in public relations? If so, no, I do not think that just knowledge from classes us enough to be successful.

For starters, I think a lot of young PR majors (I can say that, I am 24 and am a PR specialist) come out of college with the idea that they will have this glamorous job working for professional atheletes or party planning. That isn't the case. Most likely, your first job will be for a small company you've never heard of.

While you do need a certain something to be good at PR (in my opinion, it is a mix of confidence in yourself and the company, a love of writing, and attention to detail) a lot of it is just practical knowledge. You need that degree, but you also need to know things like digital photography (makes you highly marketable), commonly used computer programs such as MS Office and Adobe Photoshop, general office skills such as faxing, copying and assembling press packets and a general knowledge of what is appropriate for the workplace (what is appropriate to wear, say, etc).

It also really, really helps to have experience before you graduate and begin searching for a job. See if any departments need a newsletter (I did this) or if the communications department needs help.

knowledge is not enough.
talent is not enough.
the key is effort, motivation.
DOING is what it will take.
use the knowledge and talent to inform the motivation.
it is effort that produces results, not talent or knowledge.
