well if you robbed a bank...don't apply to be a bank teller....start with some community service (church?) and make some connections...you know, people who will vouch for you, that you've been rehabilitated and are ready to do the right thing, earn a living and live by the rules....get some job training or take classes at a college and/or earn a degree....have your name expunged (erased of all criminal history)...and be the kind of person you would hire. References can come from many sources, like landlords, teachers, ministers.....it'll take time but you can do it. Good luck.
