Eventually my career goal is to open my own psychological practice that focuses on marriage counseling. I thought I should be entering college in the psychology field but someone said that wasnt right, that I should be looking for Human services. Which is the better route for me? I know I'll have to continue onto get my masters & possibly phd. Thanks!

You can go the psychology route, but a shorter one that will get you to the same end is licensed clinical social worker. This will allow you to do marriage and other types of counselling and usually requires only an MSW. Check with your state on licensing requirements and continuing ed.

there are actually a lot of ways to get into this field...and psychology is definitely a great start (although i'm biased...i'm a pysch major). with a psychology bachelors degree, you can go on to get your masters, and then get a license for marriage and family counseling. but start with a psychology degree.
