...get her to drink from the cup?
We have put formula in the sippy cup, and she just refuses to drink it, she starts fussing until finally we give up, and move on to her bottle...
What to do?
Thanks!

MORE DETAILS: sorry, i guess i didn't explain myself correctly. No, I don't want to wean her off the bottle, I only want her to get used to the cup so that it won't be that hard to wean her (when it's time)
And... she doesn't like juice or water! That's why we put formula in the cup...
Thanks again!

I think it just takes persistence. I have a 6 1/2 month little man who we are starting on a sippy cup. His pediatrician told us to fill it only with juice or water, but never formula. Also never put juice in the bottle; that way she will never associate formula with a sippy cup or juice with the bottle. There are several different types of sippy cups out there; buy several different kinds until you find one that she will drink from. Do not listen to the people who say it is too early to start her on the sippy cup. My son's pediatrician said the earlier you start the better because babies are less set in their ways at this point. I would say that she also recommended having him completely off of his bottle by one year so you have plenty of time to let her ease into the transition. Just try to be patient and persistent... eventually she will get it! Good luck!!

7 mos is a little early for sippy cup use. Your child's muscles are not adept enough yet to splay to the sides and still continue to suckle.
Keep on with the bottle, By this time your child should still be able to hold it. At 12 mos, start introducing the sippy cup, preferably one with a soft rubber cap (Advent makes a transition one that works very well for this stage).
What we did to move our sons on from bottle to sippy cups at one year was take the bottle once they were through and literally chuck it across the room out of sight. Then said "Bottle all gone, here's the sippy cup." Literally had no arguments, no fuss. They just accepted it and moved on. DId the same thing with their pacifiers.
The important thing is that once she is the right age, remain firm. She will come to the terms that this is the only way she is going to eat, drink etc. Children adapt very quickly, much more quickly than we give them credit for.
Hope This Helps,
Amy

I have to agree with a lot of the responses out here... I thing 7 months is a little early too. My little one was on the bottle for a while but we alternated between the sippy cups during meal and snack time and the bottle for naps and sleep. Eventually, when we decided to take away the bottle, it was an incredibly easy transition. If you absolutely must take her off he bottle now, it's your decision. Just be sure that if she doesn't drink from the sippy cups right away, that she's still getting all the nutrients she needs from other sources!! Good luck.

My son HATED! sippy cups he would hurl it across the room at nap time and scream bloddy murder.
So I went down to the local wallmart and bought a "bottle sippycup" thats my word for it. It is in the shape of a bottle but has two tops you can put on it but both have vents liek a sippy cup. The first top was in the shape of a nipple but the tip was wider and had the sippy cup kinda hole. Then once they get used to that then you switch it to the actuall sippy cup top.
My son was used to the easy flow of the bottle and didnt want to have to suck harder from the sippy cup lol. I also started him around 9 months. In the end as time went on we hid his bottles and gave him only sippy cups, yet he still has a pacifier, im still working on that one lol

Try offering a few sips from a regular cup (you hold the cup) 7 months is a little too soon to be weaning totally, but early enough to offer a cup so the baby becomes accustomed to sip/swallow. My kids were breast fed but all the water, juice etc was offered from a plain cup. It saves a fair amount of grief not having to then wean from a sippy cup to a regular one.

I would just start giving her a regular cup when she is a year old and take away the bottle. 5 of my 6 (so far) have been "weaned" from the bottle on their first b-day. No problems going straight from bottle to cup.

It may not be the right sippy cup I went through about $30.00 worth on my now 8mo. old, but nothing is wrong with your baby if she never drinks from a sippy cup, it's just societies way of making people feel like they don't fit in. I introduced the cup to both of my kids at 3mos. and my oldest put down his bottle on his 1st birthday, my 8mo. old does drink from his bottle he only likes a regular cup now so it depends on the child, I would continue to try different cups and if she still refuses give her three more months.

We are actually trying to get our son to switch to the sippy cup. Out of all the ones he likes he is getting attached to the plastic ones with just one little hole in it. I know there are alot that have soft tops like bottles, that are more transition sippy cups. He is going for more of the older baby ones. All plastic. Hope this helps, as it isn't the best description!

She's probably just not ready yet... ours in 7 months and she does the same thing. Just wait a couple of weeks and try again...
Our pediatrician told us that we need to drink out of sippy cups (without the lid onviously) to get her used to the idea. Monkey see, monkey do, ya know? She wants to copy everything we do. We have been using them at measl so she can see us using them. She has goten to the point of taking the sippy cup away from us if we pretend to drink out of it and puts it in her mouth but has not made the connection to suck on it just yet. Seems to be working for the most part though...
Good luck!

nicely i would not project too plenty alot of babies do no longer supply up the bottle thoroughly until even age 2. some older yet it is not counseled. i might supply him a bottle yet supply him a sippy cup too. as quickly as he realizes that there is tasty juice in the cup he could alter. by no ability positioned the juice in a bottle! which will purely save them linked longer. go away the cup out so he continuously has that option to decide for a drink. he gets the carry of it. My wellbeing practitioner additionally advise coaching them to apply the type with a straw to suck. It helps them with their mouth motor skills and that finally leads to extra helpful language overall performance. i'm hoping this enables, good success!
