Each team plays 41 home games and 41 road games for a total of 82 regular season games. Adding the playoffs there is a maximum of 28 more games tha can be played. To win the the title you need 16 wins in four series. Each series is a best of seven. A team can go to seven games in each series and this will all add up to 28 games. Very few NBA championship teams have had to play the 28 games to win the series. Most usually sweep the first round in four games and maybe go in to six in the remaining four series.

Correction for tedi31- The Bulls won 97 games that season. 72 in the regular season and 15 in the playoffs. They did not win 100 games. It does not add up.

Hope this helps!

If we are to include the post season, each NBA team plays a total of 82 games in the regular season, a maximum of 21 games in the playoffs, and a maximum of 7 games in the NBA finals for a total of 100 games.

In 1996, when the Chicago Bulls won the NBA Championship against the Seattle Supersonics, they won a total of 100 games (an NBA record 72 games in the regular season) to bring home the championship to Chicago.

Hope this helps.
