I did it and I dont regret it. I'm in 6th year now and if I hadnt done it I'd be college and there's no way I would have felt ready to leave home and move away at the age of 17. It depends on your school, we're lucky that our school have really good options for 4th year. we went somewhere different nearly every week and at the end of the year we went on a two week trip to Europe-one of the best experiences of my life. we mostly did projects in 4th year and forget what everyone says-it is NOT a doss year! there's tons of work and if you dont do it, it honestly just gets really boring listening to teachers nag you and then having nothing to do while everyone else is working on some cool project. plus its a great time to work out what subjects you're going to do for your leaving cert. 4th year is the best time for change-you have so many options and so much time to do new stuff. put a little effort in to everything you do in 4th year and it goes such a long way. I'd definitely recommend you do it :D

Your name is Saoirse - therefore I'm guessing you're at school in Ireland and in between your Junior Cert and Leaving Cert - am I correct? If so then yes - "Transition" year is a bit of a waste of time unless you want to leave early and get an apprenticeship or become a hairdresser. It's not like in the US were it all counts towards your GPA for college or like UK when some of Year 10 counts towards your final GCSE mark, just enjoy having a no pressure year, and the fact that you live in a very cool country!.

If you're referring to senior year in high school, I guess it all depends on your perspective of what a "waste of time" is... I spent a LOT of time doing the things I really love because I had already taken every required class. The only required class senior year was English and everything else was elective. I had a ball!

No education is ever a waste of time. You get out what you put in, so try to get the most out of it.
