check the device manager- look for any question marks or exclamation points. this is a good place to start to see what the problem is. if nothing in device manager try different set of speakers-it probably isn't the speakers but it is relatively easy to eliminate. if that does not work try updating the drivers in device manager or uninstalling the device all together and reboot the system. winxp pro should redetect the sound card and prompt you to reinstall the driver or it will do it automatically for you. hope this helps

Try reinstalling the drivers first. After locating the CD or downloading the correct ones, delete the sound card from device manager, then reinstall.

Keep in mind when the CPU usage is maxed out (like burning a DVD or possibly in the middle of a spyware/virus scan) then sound might get temporarily choppy.

Hi Check to make sure you have the latest drivers first. Then use 'Task manager' to see if there is a program eating lots of CPU power. Should NOT be the speakers unless they got blown.

Have you made sure you have the latest sound card drivers? You should find them from the website of the manufacturer of the motherboard.

Did you wipe your hard drive because if you have you may have wiped of the drivers for your sound card, you will need to go into control panel and check your hardware devices.
