I'm a woman, and I'm kind of against affirmative action. I think that a person should be hired based on merit, not his or her race or gender. I really wouldn't like working at a job where I was hired mainly because I am a woman, and the company doesn't want to appear sexist.

Well, Economics tells us that in policy like this, there are winners and losers. Without Affirmative Action, white males are the winners. With it, we're less winners. Doesn't mean we're universally losers, but it does mean that we lose.
You might as well just say "Hey, white guy with everything in the world: give us your money."
The standard response would either be A.) No or B.) Fine fine fine. How much... wait, you want HOW much?
The B response is essentially affirmative action in, say, Michigan. Sure, some equalizing of the playing field is a good thing. But the way it is done needs to be something that's productive. Personally, I would have prefered that some kind of affirmative action be kept, but the system be revised so that University of Michigan doesn't give you an extra fifty points for being black (I think a GPA of 4.0 was like 30 or so. The numbers are just rediculous).
But really, that's not news. ANY policy can be abused. It's not fair for whities (like me!) to use that as an arguement for the abolishment of Affirmative Action. Given an inch, take a mile, as they say.

Are you kidding? White males have been and still are the biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action. From "legacy" admissions at selective schools, to the "comfort based" affirmative discrimination they practice when giving each other better opportunities at jobs than they're qualified for, affirmative action for white males is alive and well in America.
I don't know how many mediocre white males I've come across in my career and known that no black, brown, Asian or female person with such thin credentials ever would've gone as far.
America is still defined by stark differences in opportunity and in a great many places, there is still a door of opportunity marked "Marginally qualified, but what a great guy." Despite all the noise about affirmative action, the only people I've seen waltz through that door have been white males.

I definitely think it's fine. I'm white.
theycallmetomu, here is University of Michigan's point system. It is absolutely not 30 points for a 4.0 and 50 points for being a women or minority.
A Michigan legacy student (who's parents/grandparents attended the university when minorities weren't' allowed) who attend a private school gets 24 points automatically.
A minority, women, athlete, or socioeconomically disadvantaged person of any ethnicity get 20 points. Someone with a 4.0 gets 80 points, 3.0 get 60, 3.5 gets 70 points.

I fully accept that I have white privilige, and still retain much male privilige (not all, because sexuality is tied in with gender). And I acknowledge that I have access to things that I in no way deserve, and I have no problem with any efforts to correct this problem.

I'm against it. People should get a position based on merit alone.
