And if you are climbing that social ladder, why are you doing it?
What's your drive?
Money, Power, Fame? Knowledge? Opportunity?

I never felt the need for wealth, rather comfort and security.
I attained my career goal and am retired.
We live in a modest but really comfortable home full of pets.
My husband is not retired, he works for a major computer systems company from his home office.
We are truly blessed.

The social ladder is more of a path than a ladder. You do not go up or down, it is the journey that you choose to take. In some cases if your destination requires it, you must take the social class path, but if your destiny is to be true to yourself and others, you take a different path which is still social, but not class defined.

I've seen what's at the "top" of the social ladder in my area. I would rather suck tepid pond slime than spend my time trying to integrate myself with such backbiting, snarky, self-absorbed, self-righteous, bigots.

As Billy Joel once sang "The sinners are much more fun.."

Anything I need, I get it. Anything I want, I work for it. I don't need some moron who inheirited a fortune to be my friend, in fact, I consider them pathetic losers.

I'm fine where I am. I have very little materially, but I have meaning and purpose. That's all I need.
