Hopefully these archaic and pointless laws will soon change, but I expect the United States to be at least a decde behind Canada due to the ignorance of our public to the truth and the powerful right wing lobby that opposes any social change.

I don't think the US will ever give up on prohibition. While there are small gains through legalization of medicinal marijuana in some states and some cities like Denver Colorado have stopped arresting and charging people for pot up to the amount of an ounce, I believe that more than half of this country will always have a conservative base that is unwilling to let the propaganda that has been drilled into them go.
And what Mopar said. Until the government finds a way to profit from pot use it will never be legal

IF Canada legalizes marijuana I suspect the USA will kick and scream for the better part of a decade until they realize how beneficial the legalization would be to tourism and not to mention the precious taxes "dangerous" substances seem to have.

When "We the people" move north and there are no longer enough people left in the states to pay the fat rat's wages?
Seriously though.
Alcohol is manufactured therefor taxable and income is wrought from it "Legally"
Weeds grow wild and can be grown in the home. Not so easily taxed and the fat rats in congress wont legalize anything that does not line their pockets.
Even though we might elect a smoker to represent us, He lives by the golden rule which is now "Give me gold and I'll rule!"

There are many reasons that pot is not legal. Most of them have to do with industry. Before, it was cotton and now it is the legal industry ( for starters) So many people would be put out of work if pot was fully legal. The tax trade off would not help those that would be out of work. It's all about the money, not our supposed freedom.

i'd vote sure. issues are slowly starting up to bypass in that instructions with various states already decriminalizing possesion. i imagine in 2 a lengthy time period, it will be as criminal as alcohol. As our legislators and lawmkers get youthful and the former farts in there now are lengthy gone. Plus, there is to a lot money being made on fines and criminal experts expenses for any protection criminal professional to need it legalized.

Good questions. Hopefully everyone will catch on soon, but I kind of doubt it. Ignorance is tough to get rid of.
