Laptops are handy because people can take their work home and do the work at home. They are also handy if you do not have access to electricity (for example on a train, bus or camping) I would not say they were a necessasity, we could do without them. It just makes life easier. You can take laptops into a business meeting, much easier than carrying and setting up a computer.

I saw a news article on the Computer that talked
about how in the past Electronic Devices of the future
were to make paper use unneeded. Now is the
future, and they have found it not to be true.
We still use paper to.
If I used my Laptop for work and traveled it would
be very good to hold my reports, or play Cd's, DVDs,
for work. No fear of losing the paperwork, or having
it rained on, or soiled.
I like them, I never use a Desktop unless I have to.
