My fiancé doesn't want to use a condom after we're married, but I've had surgery recently, and am not supposed to get pregnant for a year afterwards. I don't want to use The Pill, or anything else that might delay my chances of getting pregnant next year. He WILL wear a condom, if necessary, but I thought I'd ask REAL women their opinions rather than just letting a doctor install an intra-uterine device. I'll appreciate any advice you have...

I had the paraguard IUD put in yesterday. I had been on the pill along time and needed to get off for health reasons. So I chose the hormone free IUD. You can get the Mirena that has low hormones and last for 5 years. That would be the 1 if you were wanting to have kids in a few years but not now. The 1 I got last 10 years.

Well I have to say it did hurt, but not as bad as I expected. I took 800mg of Ibuprophen before going and he used the numbing spray on my cervix. What hurt the most was being dilated that made me raise up off the table some. I couldn't feel him put the IUD in but when he was positioning it up in my uterus was uncomfortable. Just had to do alot of deep breathing. Right after i was just cramping a little. But later that night, I guess after the numbing spray wore off, I got pretty bad cramps mostly on the right side for some reason. Took 800mg of med. again and the releived it some. Took some more this morning cramping some but not bad at all. I have some mild spotting nothing to worry about. Hopfully it will go on away as the day goes on.

If you are not wanting kids for at least 2 years an IUD would be cheaper than pills. But if your insurance covers it I would say go for it. You wouldn't have the hassle of worring about it for a few years. As long as you are in a steady relationship and plan on staying there. Because it doesn't protect from STD's

Hope this helps you some. I know it can be hard finding a BC that is right for you. Good Luck.

Have you had any children?
Having not had any children does bring up the chance of the IUD shifting or just expels completely. The reason is bc a woman who hasn't had any children has a slightly smaller uterus than a woman who has carried a child to term. I had very mild cramping but I took ibuprofen b4 insertion. I spotted for6 months but it was more common after intercourse.
I do experience acne and seems to be one of the complains we get in at our office. But there is little to no weight gain on the Mirena and I haven't really had a period in 3 yrs!

I have an IUD. I haven't had it long, but so far I love it. I have the Mirena (5 year). It was slightly painful going in, but after I only had cramps for the day. I've had minimal spotting since, but it's nice knowing that I don't have to worry at all. No pills, no condoms (which my husband and I hate). I think it's definitely worth it. Good luck!

An IUD will stop you getting pregnant; it can be quite uncomfortable when it goes in, and the first one or two periods with it in can be heavier than usual. A good choice might be the Mirena coil, especially if you have heavy periods. What about female condoms? Or a diaphgram? A bit messy to use and require a bit of planning in advance; but non-invasive and no side effects. Why not take it in turns to use protection? He uses condoms one time , you use the Cap next time. Personally, I'd avoid the IUD.

I have the Mirena IUD. I love it. I had no pain or cramping when it went in. Yes there is spotting off and on the first 3-6 months. My periods are very light now. A major bonus for me is no more PMS. I certainly recommend it to other women.

I actual have the Mirena and my hubby has by no ability felt the strings. Your OB/GYN can tuck them at the back of your cervix or trim them so as that he won't be able to sense them in maximum cases. Its the simplest BC ever.
