how can we make people feel content enough not to resort to extremism? The BNP is only an example, but a very obvious and visible one, surely there are better parties to vote for?

I believe in a free party system, but the BNP are a very fine line away from being thugs. I understand that people have to express their opinions and in this country of free speech have a right to... But the BNP want to remove many LEGAL immigrants from this country who contribute greatly to our society... And as everyone knows, alloys are stronger than their basic elements, and remember the Nazis, they started out wanting to get rid of the Jews, then homosexuals, then anyone they deemed 'handicapped' and then anyone who spoke out against them. Surely they all had free speech as well? We are all human, I just don't see how one party that prides itself on being the White British Party is a legitimate expression of free speech, when it is quite prepare to infringe the right of others.

One of the things we ought to do right away is give them less airtime and press coverage. For example, the Chancellor of the Exchequer going on loudly about how bad it was that the BNP got off a race charge in court, is not doing any good. Bringing the issue back to court is not going to do any good either - it will serve only to make martyrs of the BNP leadership. Already, as a result of the trial I have begun reading their manifesto on line. Am I a Nazi? NO. Am I racist? NO. But until the trial I had paid scant attention to the activities of the BNP. One is aware of course that the BNP is now the official opposition on the council of Dagenham. The more people go on about the BNP the more likely their message is to spread. Just like any disease, it's catching.

the answer is very simple . at the next Set of elections make you view and vote count . as with all races there are a tiny minority that are hell bent on stirring up race hatred for there own ends . i ask this question what would happen if a group of ethnic people got together and did a version of there own bnp style party . i guess blood would be spilt .we have a right to free speech but each day the do gooders of this country want to take away more of mine and yours liberty's away and give more human rights to the wrong doers of this country IE the prisoners who just had compo for cold turkey . that's why groups like the bnp get more and more support . the buck stops well and truly with current shambles of a government

I would never vote for the BNP, yet find myself unable to find a party to vote for. Gordon Brown is a coward, who claims he was against the war in Iraq, yet I don't remember him applauding Robin Cooks retirement speech, or even voicing doubt. A puppet, whos paypacket is more important than his morals is simply going to be another Bush puppet. David Cameron talks a good talk, but people like Ann Widdicombe are still prominent in the party, with her bigotted, so-called Christian views.
The LibDems are well-intentioned but pro-Europe, where as I believe we should limit our involvement to a free-trade association, not the federal state it plans to become.
No real opposition, and no party reflecting the needs of the majority.

Politics by it's very nature must allow everyone to share their point of view. The beauty of the British electoral system, is that YOU get the choice of who to vote for. Lately with the rise of Islamic extremism, there has also been a rise in 'British extremism' - That is almost inevitable. If you want to stamp out the BNP, or any other extreme political party, you have to register your vote.

I would be a lot more impressed if you criticised this left wing government. Why do these left wing unpatriotic individuals get such an easy time. The popularity of the BNP is understandable, it is a reaction against unpatriotic lefties who can't be trusted to run the country without trying to destroy it.

I agree the BNP are not the answer but we don't have a right wing alternative. UKIP appear to have disappeared and the Tories are completely wet and liberal - bring back Norman Tebbit to run a proper right wing Tory party.

There are various groups you can get involved in to stop the rise of the BNP and the other far right groups. It's nice to see that someone has their head screwed on the right way.
It's not just voting against them that counts.

We may not agree with what they say or stand for, but everyone should have the right to express their views no matter how obnoxious. If we 'stamp out' the BNP, who would be next?

You sound just like the BNP! If you do not like the BNP,do not vote for them. Everyone else that is elegible to vote, may vote for whom they wish. There may well be other parties better to vote for,IN YOUR VIEW,but not everyone has your views.

Well the answer is to have a goverment who puts the needs of their people first and not sticking their noses in everywhere else, and getting their own house in order first.
Then they will need to stop screwing us over!!
