First of all, the phrase "dress punk" is one of the most ******* stupid things I've ever heard. You seem to be suggesting that people can't do or wear what they want, and can only wear the punk "uniform" if they completely abide by the laws of the stereotype. If you're so punk, why are you so obsessed with labels?

Secondly, the fact that there even is such a thing as punk clothes is insanely depressing. Punk is NOT supposed to be about fitting into a ******* stereotype.

You're right though- it's the way you act that makes you punk, if you wanna call it that. I'm a fan of punk music- and I'm not talking about modern crap like Green Day or Fall Out Boy. I think punk as a subculture is kickass- it had a drive and a purpose. It had ideals. Punk as a stereotype, though- as a trend or a fashion statement- pisses me off. While you might assume that because I dislike punk as a fashion statement that I also dislike people who "dress punk", that's not the case. I don't believe in the phrase "dress punk". People can dress however the hell they want. If they like the look, whatever. But if they're doing it in order to look punk because they think it's cool, that's ****** up.

I'm honestly not trying to insult you, so I'm sorry if it came off that way. I was a little pissed at first, but I really can't blame you for your statement. I'm just trying to make a point... I don't consider myself punk, but I listen to punk music, my hair is dyed bright red, I wear a lot of black, and I've got a thing for leather, and because of that some people jump to the conclusion that I'm trying to make myself look punk in order to be cool. I'm not. I like punk music. I dyed my hair for fun, and for myself- not anyone else. I like extremes, and black is an extreme. And honestly, who doesn't like leather (except for vegetarians, who are some of the coolest people in the world)? And another thing- I probably could call myself punk if I wanted to, and I wouldn't piss off too many people. But the point is, I don't want to. I don't feel the need to cram myself into some label, because I'm not that predictable. There's more to me than that.

I don't know if I'm making sense, but there it is. And uh... after rereading this, I realized my first paragraph or two may have been a little harsh. While I won't edit it, I will apologize if I came off as a *****. I don't know you, and I can't really judge you.

Do you think you're cool? Why do you do it? Maybe they think they're cool and want to be like you.

Why did you ask why people have to act punk, but then say it's the way that you act that makes you punk? You just steered yourself into a circular argument.

Is not using punctuation considered punk rock? I'm pretty sure that Jello Biafra and/or Ian MacKaye use periods.

All you have got to do is get a rock superstar reduce, die it black streak with red, put on tons of eyeliner and powder your face like a clown does. *Hint* (Sarcasm) But so much importantly, you should be whatever that your no longer. That's continuously the reply! *Hint* (More Sarcasm)

why are you worried about what someone else is wearing. if they like the style they have the money they can buy it and wear it. i love hip-hop and i always see these rich little white girls and guys pumping hip-hop from thier cars and wearing the clothes and know nothing about hip-hop or where it comes from. however i realize that he who pays the piper calls the tune. so if they pay for the clothing and buy the cd they have the right to listen and wear what they want. just make sure you know why you wear what you wear and let everyone else take care of themselves.

look at it like this, all these kids thought you and your few friends were cool. They wanted to be like you. They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. you should be flattered if it weren't for you these kids would have no idea how to dress.

Why do people act ghetto when they grew up in middle-upper class neiborhoods? I grew up in downtown kc and I don't act ghetto, so those fools make me laugh. Some people are just born tools.
