The song's actually called "At This Moment" and it's by Billy Vera and the Beaters. It came out in 1981 and didn't really do anything on the charts, and then in a 1985 episode of Family Ties it was featured, and then it became a huge hit right after that.

Are you referring to "At This Moment" by Billy Vera and the Beaters?

That's the song that was playing when Alex and Ellen was at the dance and then he followed her to the train station in another town. I think it was a two parter.
