Keep a consistent routine going from day to day until she gets the idea that day is awake and play, and night is for sleeping; babies love routine so they know what's to come next. For example, after mommy and I play for 1/2 hour then it's nap time. Keep her up during the day by playing with her and stimulating her. Do structured naps during the day and do not let her sleep for too long; wake her up if necessary. Make sure her room is not dark during the day for her naps.

Here's an example of a routine (it's my baby's routine):

Wake at 7:30 am
Play for 1/2 hour
Bottle at 8:00 am
Breakfast at 8:30
Play time until nap at 11:00 am
Awake at 12:00 pm
Play for 1/2 hour
12:30 lunch
Play time
Bottle at 2:30
Play time until nap at 3:30
Awake at 4:30 pm
Play for 1/2 hour
Dinner at 5:00 pm
Play time
Bottle at 6:45 pm while we watch Baby Einstein DVD
Bath at 7:15 pm
In bed by 8:00 pm

My daughter is 8 months old so your routine will be somewhat different as I'm you’re your baby will have more bottle/breast feedings and more naps. But it was just an example of what we do each day so my daughter knows what to expect.

At night a bed time routine is very important to relax and unwind your baby. That's why we do the Baby Einstein movie, she will sit quietly for the whole thing, and it's very calming. A bath before bed is also very relaxing for a baby. At bed time make sure your baby's room is dark when it's time to put her down. DO NOT make eye contact with your baby as she tries to fall asleep, eye contact equals play time. If she wakes up during the night, go in and soothe her but don't pick her and don't make eye contact. Keep this up until she can flip back to a normal day and night routine.

Good luck!!

The most simple way is to do as suggested by many...try to keep your baby awake more during the day. There is a catch though. Give the bath at bedtime, NOT in the morning. I did the morning bath with my first child and learned the hard way. I mixed up his days and nights for him. Other than this, have patience because it will straighten out, but not immediately.

I hate to sound like a "now-it-all", but somedy said if your baby is 1-5 months you can't change that... Well, he/she is wrong! (again, my apologies to this person)

Our daughter had her days and nights mixed up, too ( i think a lot of babies do), and by age 2 months, she had it right.

Like others have stated, try to keep your baby up during the day (however, there's no need to whip him with cold wash clothes...)
Just play with him, the baths are a good idea, most babies love them! (ours did)
One other thing: at night, keep it quiet. During the day, even if baby's taking a nap, try not to keep it perfectly quiet, you don't have to make lots of noise, just the normal sounds of the house... This way baby will slowly grasp the concept that NIGHT TIME is for SLEEPING, and DAY TIME for playing, eating, etc...
Of course, babies, specially small ones, need A LOT of sleep, so you shouldn't try to keep baby up ALL DAY.... (God knows I tried... not a wise idea!) If baby gets overly tired, for lack of naps, he will have problems going to sleep at night. Just don't let him take very long naps... i guess mayb 1-2 hours at a time... I say ask your pediatrician.

We also figured out that we didn't need to change baby's diaper at night, unless it was soiled. Cause if you change the diaper, it will awaken him even more. If you do have to change diaper and/or feed him, do it without talking, or turning on bright lights. Again, to help him understand that night time is for sleeping.
Our pediatrician said when baby is about 3months old, you don't have to feed at night anymore, however, I think it depends on how much baby weighs, so ask your pediatrician.
I recommend a pacifier (if your baby will take one). This helps our baby sleep like an angel!

I hope this helps... It will get better, trust me, I thought our daughter would NEVER sleep through the night, but she is currently almost 7 months and sleeps for 12 hours straight. (and has been doing it for 2 months)

Good luck!

Both my 2 children were the same way. Slept during the day but awake at night. You need to have patience and try to keep your baby awake during the day. I know its easier said than done, seeing that babies love to sleep. But i did that with mine and after about a week of doing this they finally had it right. To keep your baby awake play with her alot and give lots of baths, they are always awake for that lol. Good luck.

I know of 2 babies that the following method worked for...it sounds harsh and maybe even cruel but it worked for them.
They kept their baby up all day one day by wiping cold, wet wash cloths on the baby. They said it only took one day and the mixed up days and nights were gone. Good luck!

wellcome to parent hood. it's there time. if your bady is a newborn u can't change that. as your child gets older like 6 to 8 months then u can gently change it. when your bady takes naps make sure to get the bady up for example say your bady sleeps from 1 or 2 in the afternoon and your bady sleeps untell 6 in the evening start wakeing your bady up. then at your bed time put your child back to bed. but if your bady 1 2 3 4 5 months old u can't change that.
