In excess, television can be a hazzard.
By sitting in front of a television screen, children become sedentary. Television also limits thier imagination and time spent with friends and family.

Caroons of any sort are harmful to children, as are video games.
Educational T.V. for children is Great !!

(Not the E ! channel)
The Travel Channel is fine.
(Not The Food Network, that channel only promotes obesity)
Some sports are fine for children to watch.
Parents must decide on which sports, for their own children. Children should exercise at least one hour a day;statistics prove that this greatly helps children to do better in school and at home. Maybe join a sport. My son is in basketball and karate. My 4 yr old daughter is in gymnastics.
A time limit should be established.
After children finish there homework and it is checked by their parents or guardians, a time limit of maybe an hour during the week and maybe 2 hrs on Sat and an hour on Sun. of TV should be established. Some parents may want to leave the TV watching only for the weekends for their children. It is all a parents choice.
Parents must be consistent though.
The same should be established for using the computer for children, as well as using educational discs on the computer for children.

Children imitate what they see, so consider that. It's a huge role model for them, which can be a curse and a blessing. They can learn from educational programs, but they can learn from watching reality shows, music videos, violent shows, etc. as well. Their TV privileges should be closely monitored for quality and purpose.

As long as you are in charge of what they see and hear on TV then I don't see why it would be harmful. There's plenty on TV for kids that they can learn from and enjoy. Remember the good old Loonie Tunes cartoons? They didn't harm us any!
