I think you should just cut back on the amount of time you spend with the other friend while you see where the relationship goes. You shouldn't have to stop being friends with the friend, but maybe your boyfriend wants to feel like he's important to you and one of your primary friends, too.
Another possibility is that if you introduced the friend to the boyfriend, maybe your boyfriend would see that you're just friends. It sounds like he's kind of threatened by your relationship with him.
I know I would be annoyed if my new boyfriend wanted to be best friends with an ex-girlfriend. It doesn't sound like you and the friend were that serious as a couple, though.
I guess you really just need to decide 1) how good of friends you and the other guy are, 2) how much you want the relationship with your new boyfriend, and 3) whether the boyfriend is really going to break up with you if you don't end the friendship. He might just be saying that.

If your friend came first, he needs to stay first. Don't make the mistake of letting your boyfriend tell you who you can and cannot be friends with. If he's being that juvenile to the point of giving you an ultimatum...do yourself a favor and dump his ***. Friends are more important.

you need to tell your boyfriend to get a grip. He is apparently insecure, and overly controlling. If you let him control who your friends are now, it will only open the doorway to him controlling more and more of your life, and you shouldn't let him do that. I would say you can try taking him (your boyfriend) out with you and your friend. that is just a suggestion.

Why is your boyfriend being so possessive over you? Is he insecure in himself that he's not going to allow you to have any male friends? You should be careful with this, that's how abusive relationships start, they get really jealous and possessive and want to know where you're going, who you're going with, who's going to be there, etc... Good luck!
