I am researching this topic for a class I am taking, and I am interested in knowing why kids living at or below the poverty level are more at risk for becoming smokers than others.

Well, maybe two things, one is uneducated. The other may be a little early depression. Wouldn't you be depressed and nervous if you lived in poverty and didn't see any way out? Their parents probably smoke also. Maybe for the same reasons.
