We had just gotten her Saturday. She had worms and coccydia, some kind of skin condition (the vet wanted to wait until she was getting proper nutrition to see if that was the problem), and she wouldnt eat (we fed her baby formula with a syringe). We were expecting that she wouldnt make it, but still hoped that she would. For those of you who have lost a pet, how did you deal with it?

crying helps. also, and this may sound crazy, but when my dog died, and when my rabbit died, i felt i needed someone to tell about the greef, so i spoke to my dog and rabbit. i told them how my day was and then told them that i missed them and said goodnight. it does help becuase you can think they can hear you just like when they were alive. i know it sounds childish but it does help.
im sooooooo sorry to hear about your loss!

I never had my own pet pass away yet. I have a Labrador retriever and she's one year old. However, about 5 years ago my grandpa's dog died. I really loved the dog because I knew her all my life and was around her all the time when I was being babysat by my grandparents. I cried for days because I missed her. I finally stopped crying when I got over the loss but it took a long time. I still miss her. I'm sorry to hear about your puppy. Maybe when things get better you can take in a new puppy. Its okay to feel sad about things like this.

Losing a pet is hard and a lot of people don't understand how to deal with grief properly. I'd have a memorial service (even if it's just you) so you can say goodbye. I've written poems or art. Give it some time and then find another dog. No one can take your puppy's place, but a new puppy can help ease the loss.

There's some great tips at this site:

Well, when my dog died at age 11 I was sad for a long time, but like any type of greif, over time healing occured. Some days I get a little teary thinking of her, but usually we can just happily talk about her and the things she did. In your case, I would suggest rescuing another dog, maybe not a puppy, since older dogs have such a hard time and are so often put to sleep at the pound. Maybe you could save 2 dogs from the pound!!

i'm rather sorry on your puppy, he's so youthful. nicely, a stable way for that's to locate somebody, or in case you prefer to be on my own, and cry it out. and don't think of that it is your fault, domestic dog are certainly curious. do no longer push away the sentiments of loss and discomfort because of the fact you will experience numbness and that's no longer a stable difficulty. yet do no longer over do the crying out difficulty too. And in time, i'm specific you will recover from the loss and only bear in mind the satisfied days you have spent with him. Getting a sparkling domestic dog, may be or won't be rather useful for you. it relatively is too quickly which you will get one, yet then it relies upon totally on you, in case you think of that it will help, then get your self a sparkling domestic dog. back, i'm rather sorry on your loss.

Thats too bad. However, I am glad that you did not spend years loving this animal because it would really tear you up. I have lost 2 dogs in the last 2 years. One of which, I had for a very long time. The day after he died, I took my favorite picture of him to a tattooist and had him tattoo it on the side of my leg where my dog was always standing. I also took the rest of his pix, and of his other dog friends and made a collage. Last week, I had to have my other dog creamated. I will be putting his ashes and favorite squeaky toys in my glass cabinet for everyone to see. I will also be having his name tattooed under the other dog.

My dog died last year at age 12 . I had him since he was 6 months old and I cried forever eventhough I knew it was coming and I wasen't living at home anymore. I felt so bad b/c i left him with my mother I just couldn't take him to where I was located at that time b/c it was so hot and humid all the time and he had so much fur. I think about him from time to time and I just try not to cry. I just hope when I get to heaven he'll be there waiting for me .

Thats a tough question, everyone mourns in different ways. I lost a cat very violently a few years ago and I remember mourning for him much the same as I do a person. I remember sleeping a lot. What made it worse was we ended up in a legal battle with the vet who "treated" him. It was miserable.

That is sooo terrible. My cat had kittens and the entire litter died! It was the worst thing in the world to see all those tiny kitties blindly crawling away from their mother to go die. It still brings tears to my eyes. I just cried about it...alot. There is nothing else you can do. Just know in your heart that you tried your best. Feel better! *sniffle*

Sorry for your loss, how long did you have your pet? The longer the harder it is to deal with it, she was little, get another pet and it will be easier, in two months you'll feel better.
