Anyone who says, in the 21st century, that the country would have been better off with a segregationist president is not someone I would want to lead me...and certainly not speak for me. That is inexcusable regardless of party affiliation.

His remark was a joke with a very old man, not a racial attack. In fact I don't recall him saying anything about race. Why is Kerry tolerated by Dems after explicitly smearing US military personell multiple times?

I could ask the same question about Teddy Kennedy for all of his remarks. Maybe he was trying to make a joke like John Kerry and no one got the punch line. IF I lived in MA I'd move just because of who the Sentors are! It wasn't racial the remark Charlie Rangle made about Mississippi but it sure was offensive to folks that live there.
Is it only a bad thing when Republicans make remarks that offend people. Democrats do it all the time.

Because having left many Hispanics thinking that perhaps the Republicans don't like them much (or actually hate them, some would say), the Republicans presumably want to leave no doubt that they don't like Blacks either.

I guess the Repukes think that the American people have a short attention span, and in part they could be right about that. They had to recycle some of their old disgraces so that their new(er) guys can do their jail terms. :-)

Are you kidding me? As far as I know Trent Lott was never a member of the KKK like the Democrat Byrd was. So whos worse a proven racist who was a member of a racist terrorist cell or someone who just said something racist?
