Hi. I was on the depo shot for about 6 years, but recently stopped getting the shot about 3 months ago. My fiance and I are not really trying to be careful....so we both know there is a potential for a baby. Well, in the last couple of days my breasts have been really sore and my lower abdominal area feels kind of hard. I just ended my last period about two weeks ago, so I dont think I could be starting again? I took a pregnancy test last night and it was negative...but Im not buying it. Anyone out there know if its possible to have pregnancy symtpoms that soon after a menstrual cycle and is it even possible to become pregnant that quickly after being on the depo for so long?

Thanks

It can take a long time for depo to get out of your system. If you are pregnant, its too early for the test to show positive. the symptoms you have could just be your body adjusting to not having depo any more! Retest in 2 weks if you have not had a period by then...:D

You usually need to wait a day or two after your missed period before you take a pregnancy test to get an accurate result. It is possible to show pregnancy symptoms that soon after menstruation because in the first couple months of pregnancy, you could still have spotting for a couple days around your cycle time. It is possible to become pregnant that quickly after being on depo. It all depends on the person. Some it takes over a year, some can get pregnant right after coming off of it. I hope this helps and that your situation is resolved soon...good luck

Two weeks after you last period is a good time to to get pregnant .Boy I should know . It happened to me . The two times I didn't use protection . Bang I had my kids . I have to say through I was off the pill for two months before I got pregnant with my son . But With my daughter it was two weeks after my last cycle . And not being on any thing .Bingo ! I would wait to see for sure if anything happens in the next couple of days . Your cycle might be making a change . It happens something after stopping birth control. Good Luck

You're taking the HPT too early. Depo shot can take up to a year to get out of your system.

It's always possible to have symptoms that soon after your period, but it may also be the lingering effects of your depo shot.

Wait until you miss your next period, wait 5 days, and THEN take a HPT. You're going to get better results.

Good luck!

I'm not a Dr. but as a mother of 3 + 1 on the way I can tell you my breasts were always sore at the very begining. so it's possible. my advice is to re-take a test in a few days & the results may be different. Good luck!

Each person is different. I was on Depo for 5 years and it took me 4 years after getting off of it to get pregnant.

Though these are signs of pregnancy, they are also signs of your body adjusting itself after you've stopped taking your contraceptive. Was it a home pregnancy test you used? Because sometimes those don't work right away; usually 2 weeks after your missed period start day. To be sure, go get a blood and urine test at you doctor's office.
