I have never given a present in a plastic bag...........I have wrapped presents in Magazine pages/financial times pages etc, which can look classy ........... BUT I DO recycle expensive gift wraps of all kinds. Bags, paper, flower wraps, and most of all some of the very useful ribbons. I quite often keep the flower baskets and put new arrangements into it. In fact I have used one basket 3 times this year. Each person returned the basket after the flowers were thrown out , BECAUSE they know I might want to re-use it. We need to think more about re-cycling if the planet is to survive !!!! I quite like to buy in charity shops too!!! I also give to charity shops, rather than throwing items away.

What does it matter what the present is wrapped in, as long as you get a present that you like, I don't care if I get a present in a carrier bag or brown wrapping paper makes no difference to me

I know people who recycle wrapping paper in a variety of ways. When I was little I used to request that all my presents be wrapped in the comics pages from newspapers in order to save trees. Most of my family just humored the tree hugging phase I was going through and figured I would grow out of it. Now I request that my presents be wrapped in newspaper or some other recycled paper product because it saves petroleum. Do you know how much petroleum is used in the production and shipping of paper products?

Not the carrier bags, but my famialy recycled christmas paper for years. Many people may look at this as being overly cheap, but small town teachers (and many large town/city as well) don't get paid much. Not only that but it's better for the environment!

My mother in law is very thrifty. I always joke that the wrapping paper she uses "looks awfully familiar" because it's what I wrapped her gifts in the year before. It's okay, though. I'm super-picky about wrapping paper and only buy the really nice stuff, so it lasts from year to year.
What's a carrier bag?

Of course - if it's really posh paper that didn't rip when opened I would always use it again. My sister wraps presents in the colour supplement from Sunday papers - looks cool. Also, use old Christmas cards to make tags for gifts. Cut round the picture with pinking shears.

Not that I know of but everyone lots of people who get presents from me do because I do that. I don't use plain carrier bags but I use the x-mas ones I got gifts in last year. What's the problem? It is a waste to throw them away if there's nothing wrong with them.

What do mean "carrier bags"?If the wrapping papers, ribbons, picks, and gift bags are pretty and reusable...then hey I recycle them myself too. I use Sunday's comics as wrapping paper too.
