I don't have time to take lessons or classes. I need to do it fast in order to deal with an abuser. Thanks!

People don't usually change that fast unless they get ill, like a brain injury, or take drugs that boost confidence (PCP/Cocaine/Amphetamine) I do not advise either.
Still, you can try role playing. Get some friends together, design a few scenarios ie: at the check out, being bullied in the office etc. Then role play them but this time think of a more assertive response AND PRACTICE IT.
Two ideas I remember from my own training are:
1. Being assertive is not the same thing as being aggressive
2. You DO NOT have to explain why you like something ie chocolate more than vanilla etc. DO NOT be bullied by people into doing what they want because you can not explain your preference. YOU DON'T HAVE TO.
If there is realy zero time, get someone to help out in the short term.
Good luck.

Its not difficult. You have to resign yourself to the possibility that your new found assertiveness is not going to be accepted very well, and be prepared to face the consequences.

I assume you are planning on using this on someone who knows you as being submissive. I think in that case you should give them fair warning. Otherwise its going to come as a big surprise to them.

don't "deal with" an abuser. just get the hell out. deal with your efforts to be more assertive later, at your own pace.
