My husband does the fridge thing when he's obsessing about a problem. He'll go to the fridge every few minutes, open the door and look in. They he'll close the door and say, "I don't know why I'm doing that." or "I don't know what I'm looking for." I take him aside and say ... Okay, spill it. What's bothering you? More often than not, he'll spill it and then we deal with it. :)

OMG--my son does this at least 10 times before dinner and half a dozen after. I don't get it......I don't have a magic grocery fairy living in there.
