Embarrassment. In cases of sexual abuse, it's shame. They don't want people to know they were victimized and violated in that way. It becomes their little secret and they put it in the back of their head. I know some people who were abused when they were children and never did they said anything. Now they are finally coming to terms with their past. Another reason it's intimidation by the attacker, in most cases it's a parent so the child is intimidated to say anything because they fear for their life.

you probably did the astounding element - the youngster amenities workers have dealt with an astounding sort of abused infants before, and that they'd tell the version between a baby who's have been given bruises everywhere reason they have been hit and a baby who's have been given bruises from the varieties of falls and injuries that toddlers usually get. From what i be attentive to of this project, infants (quite infants who're the right age to stroll) not often get bruises interior the places you have suggested, so as that on my own (and quite blaming it on 'a fall', it is the #a million maximum ordinary excuse abusers use) will advance purple flags, so which you have been certainly precise to call and document the mother and dad.

Many people believe that if they go to the police the attacker will find a way to get to them. I am studying psychology and this plays a major part in the difficulties. If their attacker tells them enough times they will be in trouble they will build up a wall between them and everyone else around them. It's just like developing a phobia

I can't speak for everyone, only myself. I was very, very young when my abuse started -- even before I was old enough to understand that it was wrong. My abuser told me repeatedly that if I told anyone else, I would get into trouble. I would be taken away from my family and sent to foster care, and my family wouldn't love me anymore because I was in trouble. Pretty heavy guilt-trip to lay on a 7 year old, still bothers me 30 years later -- even though I know now that he was full of ****.

Because they are just that, children. They are very vulnerable and are taught to obey elders. If it is a parent thats the abuser it's even worse, who can they turn to. If it's a stanger or other family member they will threaten them to keep their mouths shut or terrible things will happen to their family, If they could find the courage don't you think they would tell?

Is that a serious question??!!! Why do more than half of all abuse cases go unreported? Most likely the abuser is someone close and or they threatened the victim.

Their abuser may have terrified them by saying they would harm them or their loved ones if they told. Also, the shame of it all. Plus, unfortunately, some victims feel they are to blame.
