There are some cases where people are truly disabled and need the benefit, but the Social Security Administration tends to drag its heels. If you die before they pay, they don't owe anyone anything. If your doctor says you can't work, you are entitled. Don't be discouraged by the ignorance of some of the posters.
According to Social Security regulations, you have to be turned down once for disability, before you can call in an attorney. If you have been approved, but your benefit has not been paid, contact your Congressman. They can get things moving. If you haven't been denied yet, you are going to have to wait for that to come. When you get the denial, then you can get an attorney. The attorney's fees are limited, by law, to a percentage of what is owed to you for back benefits. At least that how it was when I was trying to help folks through that maze.
Good luck.

Bureaucracy . . . it is standard for a denial on application and denial on the next appeal. You don't get to a live person until the 3rd appeal. Best to look for an attorney that specializes in SS disability (they work off % of settlement, no fees upfront) . . . I've heard the shortest usual time to approval is about 18 months. (Stay on your state SDI as long as possible)

everyone here doesn't know what they are talking bout ..but i do..i get disability and depending on how long you have been disabled and how many doctor records you have for this same condition will depend on how fast you get it...you may have to get you a lawyer..there are a lot of lawyers out there that will work for you to get your disability and not want payment unless you win...took me almost 5 years..not trying to discourage you though...they just have to make sure people aren't trying to get over on them..cause a lot of people actually do..and remember you aren't the only one disabled..thousands of people apply a day for disability and they have to be read by a human being..each one...my suggestion GET A LAWYER

I filed for supplemental social security for my son in july of last year, they denied me the first time and i appealed it and now i am waiting for the hearing and blah blah. You will get back pay from your initial filing date, so be patient. You probably got denied already and they just haven't contacted you about it. I filed in July, they denied me in August and I didn't find out about it until I called them in January and they proceeded to tell me they made a decision in August, assholes. Keep on them and eventually you'll get it.

from all I hear youre doing fine, theyre hoping youll die. If and when you get it you'll get back pay. If you haven't been turned down, that'll come shortly, then you'll need to hire a lawyer and appeal.
