Upon moving to a new apartment building some months ago, I soon discovered that my cell phone rarely, if ever got a signal when inside the building. Outside the building, and in the surrounding areas, it works fine. I currently use T-Mobile with a Motorola V188 phone. I've been considering changing carriers, and want some advice as to which carriers and/or phone models will work best in a building with thick concrete walls.

All cell provides' signals are subject to the laws of physics. it may appear that one provider is better than another because of the location of their tower. When comparing provider A to provider B standing in the same room, one might be better than the other becase they have a closer tower.

1st, please don't take anyones advice on what carrier, you might end up switching and finding your coverage worse. They will only be basing on thier location, not yours
Best bet is to have a friend that has Cingular, Verizon and sprint come to your apartment and test how well those providers work. if you find one that works well then you have your answer. Other option since you are happy with your service is to call T-Mobile and ask if they have a free forwarding service (I know Cingular does) When you are in the apt, have the calls forwarded to your home phone. you can also try poppiing your sim into a Nokia phone, Nokias are known for great signal strenth

nokia is the best for signal reception. But carriers function differently at different locations. so u need to consult ur neighbours whether they are facing any problems with a particular carrier. u can also consider a signal booster, available in market. and also there are signal booster antennas that can be put outside ur building, so that the effect of concrete walls is minimized.

Betcha if you went to T Mobile and told them, they would give you a phone that worked, they would rather have you paying them with a better free phone than no payment at all. its simple math
