The word "medium" here refers to the *means* by which the message is sent. Is the message being delivered through a live person, the television, printed word, etc?
The statement is urging you to pay attention to what the speaker is trying to say, and ignore whether the speaker's gender, race, attractiveness, etc. It's a well-documented fact that an audience tends to respond most positively to a speaker that is good-looking and charming, and is less likely to find the speaker credible if he is ugly or hesitant.

The medium is the method of transmitting the message. For instance, television is one type of medium. (You are probably more used to hearing the plural form of the word---"media", referring to newspapers, television, radio and other transmission methods as a group). The phrase you refer to means you should listen for the meaning, and not be distracted by the way the message is presented. Sometimes a public speaker may have mannerisms that you find attractive, or annoying, and your attention focuses on those mannerisms instead of what the person is actually saying.

This question is more appropriately put like this:
"concentrate on the message not on the messanger. This would mean: Pay attention to the message and not to the person who delivers it.
It is said, I think in the new testament, follow their advise but do not imitate their behaviour.
"Medium" in the question means the person who conveys the message.

The original quote (from Marshall McLuhan) was, "The medium is the message." It's the subject of detailed analysis on-line.

I think it means as medium as the subject. So concentrate on what your trying to say..and generally so much as the topic.

"medium" is the method in which something is delivered.
So the quote is saying: pay more attention to the message that is being delivered rather than HOW it is being delivered.

Focus on what the person is trying to impart to you, what the person is trying to tell you. But DO NOT focus on how it's being told or the way it's being told.
