Me and two of my guy friends are sick of Upstate NY and we are going to move after feb. 2007...Pretty much has to be a place that is overall warm and not much snow. Please help us pick somewhere or give us ideas...Some places I am thinking are Wilmington NC, maybe Nevada or Arkansa???

Go down on the Gulf Coast, maybe New Orleans and help rebuild. There will be many opportunities to make money and establish yourself there and the weather is good most of the year. It would be a real accomplishment to start a business or just work at rebuilding our torn coast.

I've lived in Reno, NV and although there is very little snow count, it's VERY (100 degrees +)hot in the summer. I live in Virginia now and have been through Wilmington, NC, it seemed nice but I really couldn't venture an opinion other than a visual. As for Arkansas, been through there too but you need to lose any driving skills you might have. My husband and I travel often by vehicle and try to avoid Arkansas for that reason alone.
I'm not trying to offend anyone, just giving my impression based on my experience.

I would go to Kentucky, or Virginia,
The problem with Nevada is the fact that the summers can reach upto 120 degrees. Plus since you lived in upstate NY, it will be the most boring place to you. not much but desert. You are comming from a place that has lush vegitaton, Too far south, the humidity will kill ya. But virginia, and kentucky, places like that, are beautiful.
Poke around and look at plenty of pictures.
Listen to coral2800, she sounds adventerouse, those are the best people to get moving advice from.

If you enjoy the outdoors (as opposed to cube farms) then I'd recommend Austin Texas. They have great greenbelts, bike paths and diverse employment. The city was, at one point, considered the most wired city in America. We've lived all over the country: Queens NY, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Nebraska and have enjoyed Austin the most of all. The electric utility here is known for being a leader in Green Building and have dedicate huge sums of money to keeping the city on the cutting edge of alternative energy. In closing also remember that Austin is/was considered the Live Music Capital of the U.S.
UPDATE: Just saw your information about college, don't forget we've got UT here (check links).

I'm doing the same. I'm from Jersey originally and moved to Virginia, but where I live in Virginia is rual and now I need to get out of here. I think you should visit the places first to make sure they have what is important to you. For me it is college and Macy's. We don't have a Macy's and didn't think there was a place in this country that didn't have one with 30 min. College, there is one that is close, but it is expensive and it sucks. So, now I'm going to move to Orlando, Floridia to move away from the cold weather, be near a beach, tons of stores, clubs and quite a few colleges. FL also has a lot a places for sale cheap (a small decent house for under 200k) and have a lot of jobs (near orlando, other parts of FL I don't know about).
Arkansa & NC I would worry about not being near stores, schools, and bordum (just like Virginia). Also, you'll find that when you move south people tend to be a lot slower in every way (it drives me crazy). So, if you go south you don't want to be too far from a city. Nevada sounds like a lot of fun (if your moving close to Vegas), if not don't go there it's boring. Also, make sure you check their unemployment rate, if it is higher that 6% right now it might be hard to find a job (national average is 6%, Virginia is 3%, which is very low).

Two suggestions. In the reference section of your library there should be a book called Places rated Almanac. It rates 352 places in North America in 10 categories. Great starting point. I used this when I left upstate NY. Or try findyourspot.com. This is a decent site. I used it yesterday. Good luck.

wow, that's pretty random. try to think up some qualifications besides weather (weather is a good one but try to come up with some more) and look at the various "lists" that are out there (quality of life lists, best place to live lists); think about what are your personality types and what kind of pace of life do you need? of course have fun and no matter where you move it doesn't have to be forever if it doesn't work out you can always move again.

Nevada is a beautiful state. Warm weather, friendly people and just a lovely place to live. Lots to see and do.....And remember, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!

Can't go wrong with Dallas. I've had many friends from there, and they all go back because they love it there so much.

You should move down to St.Louis. I heard it is the most dangerous state.
