The Boric powder is a good way to get rid of them. I mix the powder with bacon grease and make a "dough ball" out of it and drop them behind the stove, frig, normal places. The roaches come after the grease and the boric kills them.

Down here in Florida, roach season is just starting. Even if you do everything you can, you will still have at least some. It's disgusting. Anyways, I've started being a lot more conscious about leaving things around, like dirty plates and crumbs. My roommates and I are all in college and we just finished finals, so now we're cleaning up before the roaches start getting bad. We put out roach traps, use bag clips to close our cereals, make sure there's no food left in the kitchen drain, do our dishes as soon as we use them, and clean up our crumbs. It's really helped. As long as you're clean about dishes and food, block up any holes in your wall, and lay out a few roach traps in hidden places, you should be fine. We also have two cats that help keep things under control. I haven't seen any roaches in the past two weeks because of this. Good luck!

I used to own a few apartment buildings and roaches would be a problem from time to time. The cheapest way to get rid of them is roach bombs you get at a home improvement store like Lowes. I'd put one in every room of your house including the attic and crawl space if you have one, otherwise you're just going to be running them out of one room and into another. If that doesn't work I would call an exterminator. Make sure you get an exterminator with a guarantee. You should be able to find one for at least 3 months. That way if you see another roach (or if you just want to make sure there aren't any hiding anywhere) in a month or so you can call them to come back out for free. Good luck!

I managed to get rid of bad roaches by placing lots of RAID roach motels throughout my kitchen AND putting a daily coat of RAID spray along the edges of cabinets, behind the fridge, stove etc.

If you've got small kids or pets - DON'T do this. It's really not the healthiest way to get rid of them - but it sure worked for me. I used a whopping 4 roach motels in my tiny kitchen (what is recommended for an entire house).

Also - I'm obsessive now about keeping food tightly sealed (even cereal is emptied from the box into a tupperware container). Fresh fruit and veggies go into the fridge and I always keep the counter free of crumbs and food.

Funny though - now I'm starting to get a ladybug problem. At first I thought they were cute - but now they're just annoying.

I have heard that if you cut hedge apples in half
and throw them under the house it will get rid of roaches, but never have tried that. What I did was go to Dillon's food storeand bought some
Dillon's roach spray, just before I sold my house.
I had to sweep them up every day before they
showed the house. It really worked good for me. Spray around the baseboards, and in the
closets, and under the sink. Also don't leave any foodstuff around as that really draws them, and
empty trash as soon as possible. Hope this helps.

Here's a life experience. We lived in Las Vegas, the Roach capital of the Southwest. I had 125 condos and 50 homes, some two story. We has "Rose" exterminators" come in on a basis of, One initial treatment, then in six weeks, another then one more in three months, cost $125.00 and a guarantee..

My treatment to save money! you wouldn't believe it and there's no guarantee. It would take this whole page, Pay the price, it's worth it.

You can bomb and spray, bomb like I said an all day job and no guarantee.

http://www.alsnetbiz.com/homeimprovement/boric_acid.html Also look up "diatomaceous earth".. it is a white powder that you sprinkle in the back of cabinets just like the boric acid and it kills roaches.
You also need to make sure that food is not left out, don't forget your pet's food dish also. And roaches can live for weeks on ONE licked popsicle stick, i have heard. So you have to be really clean, esp. till they are gone.
I also got "roach baits" with chemicals to stop the little buggers from making eggs.

I have found only one way that really worked for me -- freeze the bugs out. After spending a fortune on sprays, powders and exterminators and having no luck, we finally flipped the power main, turned off the water and gas and left the house for about 4 days. This was in the coldest part of winter. It worked. No more roaches since and that was 3 years ago.

Roaches are like mold, you have to do the ENTIRE premises or they will just migrate . . . I would get an exterminator to tent the building (one with a guarantee that includes follow-ups)
Note: I lived in a building where the landlord did 1/2 the building each month . . . they would flood our place when doing the other half. Better to do it all at once, then you might get by with once a year !

Let some lizards loose in your house. I had at least one living under my stove when I lived in Houston, TX. They eat all kinds of insects. I never had a roach problem even though my neighbors often did.

The other thing I did was to "bomb" the apartment before I moved in.

I never saw a single roach in that apartment. In that area of Texas, everyone was complaining of roaches.
