That depends on the rest of the examination findings. There are instances where the cisterna magna measures greater than 10mm and no other malformations are noted in the ultrasound and the baby is completely normal and healthy. I would begin to worry if there is combination of anomalies noted with routine ultrasound screening and request to see an advanced care doctor or center for more accurate screening and genetics. Also, what stage of pregnancy you are in influences measurements. Are you in third trimester?

I am a pediatic nurse, have done some research on the subject. What he said is correct...and i'm sure he does not want you to be unduly alarmed. How many weeks are you? Is this the first ultra sound? Does the doc plan to do another ultrasound on your next visit? All of these things make a difference. Next time you see him, be very firm in you resolve...ask questions , do not settle for less than satisfactory answers. It is often difficult for doctors to give exact answers to questions based on an ultrasound, but you could ask if a PERINATOLOGIST or RADIOLOGIST should also see the ultrasound...they usually have more extensive experience reading ultrasounds. Do not put your doc on the defensive...that is counter-productive, but let him know you want to know all you can. Some docs thnk you worry less if you know less, but for most folks that is not true! Your risks for a problem are low...but Ask. Hope all goes well for you.

Any length carried out in third trimester(24-40 weeks) by Ultrasound won't be able for use to make certain if there's a situation for the fetus or no longer. third Trimester ultrasound is performed to look on the growth of the baby, no longer any anatomies or abnormalities. have you ever carried out an ultrasound throughout the time of the 2d trimester? an replaced into the Cisternae Magna length replaced into wide-spread then?

Your doctor couldnt explain that to you? You pay him to.. he better have. If not call him up and get a direct answer for him based on your particular circumstances.
